I have been meaning to reflect on last Saturday nights improv show directed by Keith Johnstone. In summary, it was truly worth the six hours of driving. Now, while it was exciting to see Keith in the flesh and see him in action, I was so impressed by the improvisers in the Maestro show that night. I have no idea if those players were regulars at the hideout theater, but if they are any indication of the quality of improv in Austin, than Austin is the place to play.
There were many fantastic players on the stage, but the winner, and rightfully so, was truly the Maestro. Curtis Luciani played every scene with a commitment that left wanting more when the lights went down. For everyone who was there, his Shakespearean scene was inspired and his telling of the story of little red riding hood from the wolfs perspective was genius. I was laughing throughout the show and I brought a friend who had never seen an improv show. He almost fell off his chair five times.
Anyway, if you are ever in Austin you should check out The Hideout Theater.
P.S. I am sure he has heard this a million times, but didn’t the MC of the show, Roy Janik, look like a Seth Rogen double?

Ha! I do indeed get the Seth Rogen comparison all the time, and I take it as a complement each time.
Regarding the players, everyone except Tim (the guy from Australia) and Paul (the guy from San Francisco) are Austin regulars.
Thanks for the kind words. Hopefully we’ll see you soon.
